A small ways further into Galicia exists a land called Ourense. Since moving here I have heard many people talk about the beauty of this place, but hadn't visited until now. Over the weekend a few friends and I met up to go on an adventure to Ourense. The bus left at 11:30 in the morning, allowing me to get a good night's sleep before our adventure started. Now the bus ride was absolutely beautiful, from what I remember. Now that I have traveled a lot this year, I feel as if I get on a moving object and I fall straight to sleep. Call me crazy, but it is nice sometimes. Unfortunately I missed quite a bit of beautiful countryside. But the parts I did get a glimpse at were gorgeous green rolling hills covered in vineyards.
Un poco mas en el interior de Galicia existe una tierra que se llama Ourense. Desde mi llegada aquí, he escuchado a mucha gente hablar de la belleza de este sitio, pero nunca la había visitado hasta ahora. El fin de semana pasado algunos amigos y yo quedamos y marchamos en una aventura a Ourense. El autobús salió a las 11:30 por la mañana, y eso me dejó dormir bien toda la noche antes de nuestra aventura. El paseo en autobús fue absolutamente genial, de lo que recuerdo. He viajado mucho este año, y por eso siento que cuando entro en medios de transporte, yo duermo al instante. Me llamareis loca, pero algunas veces me gusta. Desafortunadamente, no he visto mucho del paisaje bonito. Pero los partes que vi eran pintorescas colinas onduladas llena de bodegas.
We arrived at Ourense in the early afternoon and went to the big attraction first, the Roman bridge. Scattered throughout Galicia are tons of Roman bridges. It is seriously amazing to think that a bridge built over 1500 years ago is still standing and some of the bridges that we construct today don't last 50 years. Of course these bridges have undergone many renovations, but still impressive to see them standing today.
Llegamos a Ourense después de mediodía y fuimos a la atracción mas grande primero, el puente romano. Dispersado por el paisaje de Galicia, hay muchos puentes romanos. En serio, es increíble el pensar que un puente construido mas de 1500 años en el pasado todavía esta y algunos que construyen hoy en día no duran más de 50 años. Por supuesto estos puentes han sufrido cambios y restauraciones, pero todavía que impresionante es ver estos puentes en pie.
Afterwards we took a stroll through the city center and headed to the Plaza Mayor. At the time a really neat antique market was being held in the Plaza Mayor. I found a bargain bin and got my hands on a really unique tile with pictures of the roman bridges on it! It was almost a steal. Before we knew what was going on, hunger hit us. That started our search for a place to eat. Which sounds like such and easy task, but almost always serves as a challenge when visiting someplace new.
Después dimos un paseo por el centro de la ciudad a la plaza mayor. Al mismo tiempo había un mercado de objetos antiguos en la plaza mayor. Encontré una caja de rebajas y vi un azulejo chulisimo y único con una foto de los puentes romanos. Era casi un robo! Antes de que ver lo que estaba pasando, no entró muchísima hambre y empezó nuestra búsqueda de un sitio para comer. Suena fácil, pero casi todo el tiempo es un reto cuando estás visitando una ciudad nueva.
After lunch we set out to the Millennium Bridge. This bridge crosses the Rio Miño. Recently built, it has a modern style. There are steps on both sides of the bridge which you can climb to the top and see a view of Ourense. While this may sound like bunches of fun, it was actually a terror stricken experience. But, I purged through my fear of heights and made it to the top.
Después de comer, marchamos al puente millennium. Este puente cruza el río Miño. Recientemente construido, tiene un estilo moderno. Hay escaleras en los dos lados del puente y puedes subir al pico a ver las vistas de Ourense. Mientras esto parecía muy divertido, era sin embargo una experiencia de terror. Pero, luché por mi miedo y llegué al pico!
5 minutes passed and we climbed down the bridge and headed towards the Baños Termas, also known as Roman Baths. These hot spring baths are filled with water heated by the ground. A wide variety of people use them for relaxation, others believe that they have healing powers. I am probably a believer of relaxation more than the healing powers.
5 minutos pasaron y bajamos del puente y fuimos por los baños termas. Estos baños tienen agua caliente que suben de la tierra. Mucha gente usa los baños termas para relajarse, mientras otras creen que tienen poderes de curar. Probablemente, yo crea más en la relajación que en el supuesto poder curativo.
The day ended with a coffee at a cafe and a quick hour bus ride back to Vigo. Overall it was a relaxing and clam day full of beautiful views, relaxation and adventure, of course!
Acabó el día con un café con leche en una cafetería y un paseo en autobús rápido hasta Vigo. De todos modos, era un día de calma, lleno de vistas bonitas, relajación y aventura. ¡Por supuesto!
